New curriculum implementation can feel overwhelming—especially when teachers are expected to build resources while they are still making sense of new outcomes. In this hands-on session, educators will use a collaborative backward design process to move from curriculum outcomes to clear learning goals, meaningful assessment, and engaging learning experiences.
Using Alberta’s new Social Studies curriculum as the context, we’ll explore how to design a story arc across a unit—creating a compelling context, meaningful challenges, purposeful learning experiences, and a sense of progression that keeps students curious about what comes next. Rather than planning a series of disconnected activities, teachers will learn how to build learning that feels connected, intentional, and memorable.
Participants will leave with a repeatable planning process for turning curriculum and vetted resources into a coherent learning journey that supports inquiry, student engagement, deeper thinking, and meaningful assessment.
