Step into an immersive, curriculum-connected professional learning experience that brings Métis history and culture to life through Minecraft. Set in and around Métis Crossing, this hands-on workshop guides educators through a rich Minecraft world featuring three engaging learning activities: beaver trapping and fur trading, a bison hunt, and a creative build zone where students apply their understanding through design and storytelling.

Educators will explore how this interactive Minecraft experience supports deep learning about the traditional Métis way of life, including clothing, language, music, dance, and modes of transportation such as the York Boat and Red River Cart. Along the journey, teachers will encounter important Métis historical figures as well as NPCs inspired by real Métis people who continue to contribute to Métis culture today. These characters share traditional knowledge, cultural context, and guided instructions to support inquiry-based learning.

Participants will also explore detailed, historically accurate structures—including a Fur Trading Fort, Cromarty Barn, and other landmarks—designed to foster exploration, discussion, and cross-curricular connections. Educators will leave with practical strategies for using Minecraft to support social studies, Indigenous education, literacy, and creative expression, while honoring Métis perspectives in meaningful and respectful ways.
