Pre-requisite: Level One VTRATM

Level Two VTRA training builds on Level One training by preparing VTRA trained professionals to conduct Stage Two VTRA's.

  • Stage One VTRA is referred to as "data collection and immediate risk reducing interventions" often accomplished is two hours or less with the support of a functional multidisciplinary VTRA team.
  • Stage Two VTRA is referred to as "comprehensive risk evaluation, case formulation/treatment planning and longer-term interventions" resulting in lasting gains.

This training includes a distinction between Stage One VTRA risk enhancers versus Stage Two VTRA risk enhancers, that will be demonstrated through comprehensive case studies that go deeper than those covered in Level One training. Broader systems dynamics will be presented including the role of family dynamics and trauma in contributing to violence potential.

A distinction will be made between pathways to violence that includes an understanding of primary crimes and secondary crimes and their manifestation in the evolutionary process of violence. The role of mental health diagnoses and violence potential will be presented along with more comprehensive systems dynamics that can combine to either elevate or decrease risk.  Strategic interviewing using domains of individual functioning will also be presented. Language/statement analysis in threat assessment will presented as a general overview and theme throughout the training.

A more streamlined case formulation process will be presented to encourage more complete data-driven assessments resulting in congruent data-driven interventions meant to maintain clinical and VTRA team success.
