A Day in the Sandbox of AI Enabled High School Social Studies

This one-day workshop is an opportunity to push through some of the noise surrounding the piloting of the new social program while navigating the promises of AI. By working hands-on with a cutting-edge AI tool to design learning activities and assessments, participants will develop activities to support a 3 S approach to social studies – weaving students’ sense of Self, to Society through the Subject of social studies.  This holistic approach ensures that students not only learn about historical events and societal structures but also understand their own identities and roles within the broader societal context.

Given both the excitement that AI promises and the uncertainties surrounding how it will impact teaching and learning, the session will conclude with an invitation to build a network of teachers interested in playing in the sandbox that will be the wonderfully messy futures of AI in classrooms.

There are No prerequisite AI skills required – just a sense of curiosity and commitment to experimentation and collaboration. In the spirit of the sandbox, the session will be a safe space for experimentation without fear of failure or judgement.

Participants will need access throughout the day to the internet and should ensure that they have access to ChatGPT4o  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pWtcDDOPigQ
