Do you dread teaching Fractions? Teaching is more than covering content, learning is more than merely taking in and assessment is more than accurate recall. Join Ulana as she will share teaching strategies that will help your students build an understanding of improper fractions and continue building an understanding of additive thinking with fractions. We will participate in engaging activities that will help you teach the new fraction outcomes in grade 5, and allow you and your students to have fun at the same time! Ulana will share and practice strategies for teaching fractions by connecting the abstract to the concrete with physical and visual models. You will learn how to use fluency-building fraction activities to engage students when explaining fractions and why it is important to demonstrate an understanding of improper fractions. Once meaning is made and understanding is gained we can link this information to make meaning of ratios also! Let’s reduce the anxiety that fractions trigger in so many people! Let’s do it right!
