Come explore strategies to build Students understanding about how numbers and operations work.  This is a critical part of developing deep, meaningful mathematical skills, understanding and confidence. We will discuss how to help students understand the role of the decimal point and the relationship between tenths, hundredths, and thousandths. Strategies for Building additive thinking skills for Decimal numbers will be discussed.  There is some math that we do not want our students to resort to algorithms.  We want them to think about the numbers and have the confidence in mental math using easy and fun strategies. Students should be supported in developing a rich, meaningful understanding of how the operations work in order to support their skills in working flexibly with numbers. We need to  provide them with opportunities to compare strategies and contexts, exploring situations when particular strategies are efficient and when they are not as efficient. Join Ulana as she provides you with many useful teaching strategies you can use with your students to build understanding of decimals and to build flexible additive thinking with decimal numbers.
