Helping Students with Reading: Supporting our EA Superheroes in Schools

Are you lucky enough to work with students in schools and have opportunities to help children with their reading? If so, join Michelle and Miriam for a 4-part learning sprint series targeted specifically for our Superheroes in education: Educational Assistants! We will take a deep dive into how reading develops and share easy-to-implement strategies to help all children experience success in their reading journeys. The focus will be on elementary education, but many of the strategies we share can also be used with older students. We can’t wait to ‘see’ you there!

Session 1: Wednesday, October 18th, 1:00-1:30

In our first session together, we will look at how reading develops over time and then dig into one of the foundational components: Phonological Awareness. This session will builda common understanding and language around reading development and instruction, paired with a handful of great strategies for students.

Session 2: Wednesday, October 25th, 1:00-1:30

Together, we will dive into Phonics and Word Study. We will build on some of the activities we introduced in session 1 and share more. You will leave with some great, research-based strategies that you can use with a wide range of students.

Session 3: Wednesday, November 1st, 1:00-1:30

In this session, we will examine syllable types! We will look at the 7 different syllable patterns in the English language and how you can use that information to help students when reading and writing.

Session 4: Wednesday, November 8th, 1:00-1:30

In this final session we will focus on how you can support students in their reading journeys. This includes what to do when a child is reading to you, and how to enhance comprehension through discussions before, during, and after reading.
