Unpacking and Understanding the New Math Curriculum – Grade 6 Fractions

This session will focus on the Organizing Idea: Number, specifically looking at the understanding of the first four Learning Outcomes:

·         Students relate fractions to quotients.

·         Students add and subtract fractions with denominators within 100.

·         Students interpret the multiplication of natural numbers by fractions.

·         Students apply equivalence to the interpretation of ratios and rates.

This session for grade 6 will focus on understanding the changes, key vocabulary, and how the Knowledge, Understandings, Skills and Procedures work together to help bring understanding to the learning outcome.

Specific strategies for learning and teaching as well as support resources will be shared as part of the learning.
