Unpacking the new Math Curriculum- Grade 5 and 6 Number
This session will focus on the Organizing Idea: Number, specifically looking at the understanding of the following Learning Outcomes:
Grade 5
· Students analyze patterns in place value hundredths.
· Students add and subtract within 1 000 000, including decimal numbers to thousandths, using standard algorithms.
Grade 6
· Students solve problems using standard algorithms for addition and subtraction
This session for grade 5 and 6 as well as combined grades will focus on understanding the changes, key vocabulary, and how the Knowledge, Understandings, Skills and Procedures work together to help bring understanding to the learning outcome.
Specific strategies for learning and teaching as well as support resources will be shared as part of the learning.
