Learning Opportunities

Marylou Dickson, an experienced teacher of 30+ years, has a strong background in secondary literacy which includes her EdD research on how secondary discipline specialists engage with discipline-specific texts. Dr. Dickson has worn a number of different hats with the Edmonton School Board including teaching secondary English Language Arts (ELA) for over twenty-five years in both in person and virtual classrooms, being an ELA department lead, providing literacy support for grade 3-9 students, and working as a secondary literacy consultant. She has also taught Secondary Discipline-Specific Literacy at The King’s University. Marylou has a passion for seeing literacy taught in all secondary subjects. Through the expertise she has gleaned from her research and teaching experience, Marylou has honed her secondary literacy coaching skills that can positively impact the way secondary teachers communicate their discipline-specific literacy to their students.
