“When multilingual learners are able to show what they know and can do using their full linguistic and academic repertoires, we enhance their prospects for success in school and beyond “(Gottlieb, 2021).

Based on Margo Gottlieb’s work on assessment practices for linguistically and culturally diverse students, this two-part session will explore equitable and culturally responsive assessment practices and seek to answer the big question: Why assess in multiple languages?

Participants will:
• Better understand the rationale for and evidence on the value and advantages of classroom assessment in multiple languages;
• Add to their toolkit of classroom assessment practicies in one or multiple languages
• Recognize how social-emotional, content, and language learning are all ties to classroom assessment
• Guide multilingual learners in having voice and choice in the assessment process

Target Audience
