Healthy emotional and social development in our early years lay the foundation for mental health and resilience throughout the lifespan (Mental Health Commission of Canada, 2023). While no one can predict if and when someone might experience a mental illness, strategies aimed at developing resilience and other protective factors such as autonomy and positive relations, have proven to be effective for an entire population, including those currently facing mental illness (CMHA, 2023).

Social and emotional learning (SEL) is the process through which all young people and adults acquire and apply the knowledge, skills, and attitudes to:

- develop healthy identities,

- manage emotions and achieve personal and collective goals,

- feel and show empathy for others,

- establish and maintain supportive relationships, and

- make responsible and caring decisions.

Over five 1-hour workshops, we will take you on an SEL journey where we will explore the five competencies of SEL and discuss effective tools and strategies to use within your classroom to minimize chronic stress and negative behaviours, and improve academic performance and mental well-being.
