Roundtable Discussion on Assessment in the New Science Curriculum

The new Science curriculum is being piloted this year with an anticipated K-3 implementation in the fall of 2023. In the pilot's initial stages, questions have been raised regarding assessment. This roundtable is intended to bring together the varied voices involved in the pilot as well as interested teachers, leaders, implementers, etc., to share thoughts, concerns, questions, and approaches to assessment with the pilot Science curriculum by addressing the following guiding questions.

  • Knowledge: How is assessment of knowledge being addressed? What is working well? What thoughts, concerns and opportunities do you see going forward?
  • Skills & Procedures: How is assessment of Skills & Procedures being addressed? What is working well? What thoughts, concerns and opportunities do you see going forward?
  • Understanding: How is assessment of Understanding being addressed? What is working well? What thoughts, concerns and opportunities do you see going forward?
  • Learning Outcome: How is achievement of the Learning Outcome being determined for reporting? What is working well? What thoughts, concerns and opportunities do you see going forward?

The goal of the second session, January 19, 2023, is to share and explore possible ways to address identified assessment and student achievement reporting concerns with the New K-6 Science curriculum through an analysis and application of research based practices.
