The SIOP Model includes many features that are characteristic of high-quality instruction for all students, such as cooperative learning, reading comprehension strategy instruction, writers workshop and differentiated instruction.  However, the SIOP Model adds key features that support the academic success of English language learners: inclusion of language objectives in every content lesson, development of background knowledge, acquisition of content-related vocabulary, and emphasis on academic literacy practice.

Each interactive session will explore one of the eight components of the SIOP Model along with their corresponding features.  Participants will have opportunities to discuss how they would implement the various components into their practice, as well as share the outcomes of that implementation.
