Reading and writing are vital for students to be successful in their academic careers. But, historically, multilingual students on average do not attain reading and writing proficiencies comparable to their native English Canadian classmates by the time they graduate high school.

This session will look at some of the reasons for these achievement gaps and how teachers can plan for language development in order to improve reading comprehension and writing proficiencies. Time will also be spent to address how parents who do not speak English can support their child's reading and writing development.

All learning opportunities with the ERLC regional team will focus on the Alberta Education and district priority areas.
