This session offers insights regarding how students (and teachers) can be better prepared and hopefully less stressed when facing provincial assessments.

The session will begin with a discussion of what features of PATs/Dips are sources of stress for students and teachers – and how to mitigate these.

The session will then focus on some of the ways that provincial test developers work to alleviate stress by making provincial assessments as fair as possible, given the constraints of standardized testing.

The presenter will also share results from a pre-pandemic survey of students who were preparing to write diploma exams to see what their levels of stress were, what were the sources of stress, and what they regarded as ways teachers could help reduce their stress.

Participants are encouraged to ask questions to eliminate gaps in knowledge and common misconceptions about provincial assessments.

All learning opportunities with the ERLC regional team will focus on the Alberta Education and district priority areas.
